Dissociation

Dissociation, as my paintings are referenced, is a term used to describe the process of one to disconnect from their surroundings as a result of trauma. The works present a space of dislocation, portals into a new imagining of elements. I wish to give a referencial ladder between the world as it is, and  the possibility of something completely different.

My paintings are an investigation of edges, layers, and entropy while referencing materials from the external urban environment as conceptual stimulants. The works in this series involve mold formed skins, taken from pre-existing surfaces and objects. Acrylic paint is the primary medium of the work, which forms into a malleable component of the compositions. Industrialized materials and their transformation is the primary content of my work. Secondary decisions in my work involve color relationships, composition, subversion, pattern, textural density, musicality, and painterly accents.
